The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced its much anticipated new regulations on June 21, 2016, which considerably reduced the requirements for operating UAVs during forensic investigations. The FAA’s new regulatory framework for small unmanned aerial systems includes changes to the requirement for Visual Observers (VOs) during operations and permissions required prior to flights.

DataWing Joins New Drone Advocacy Group With Cisco and CNN as Members

There’s a new drone advocacy group in Washington, D.C. and Silicon Valley.

The Commercial Drone Alliance took off on Tuesday with founding board members including the likes of networking giant Cisco, a drone-centric data crunching startup called Data Wing, and drone startup Measure. Measure made news in September when the Federal Aviation Administration gave the business permission to fly more than 300 drones for aerial data-gathering projects.

New Drone Analytics Product Offers Faster Processing of Homeowners Claims

Aerial HouseA drone combined with analytics offers insurers a way to not only inspect and investigate claims but also process them. US DataWing Aerial Analytics incorporates data and images captured by a drone using a proprietary algorithm – a set of procedures or steps to complete a computer process – to assist in the claims process.

The Texas-based company began offering its services to homeowners’ insurers last year. According to Steven Fargo, company president, the insurance industry has provided the most rapid growth, likely the result of the big data analytic product component.
